April M. Saunders – Founder & Executive Director
Empowering Young Mothers Since 1999

I am April M. Saunders, and my journey began as a teen mother navigating the overwhelming challenges of young parenthood. I know firsthand what it feels like to face the world with uncertainty, limited resources, and the weight of responsibility on young shoulders. But through faith, perseverance, and the support of just a few who believed in me, I overcame those difficult years.

In 1999, driven by my own experiences and a deep passion to make a difference, I founded Momma’s Place, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to housing, educating, and supporting teen mothers. My mission is to provide what I once needed most: stable shelter, guidance, and the tools to build a brighter future.

Today, as Founder and Program Director, I stand proud of the hundreds of young women we’ve helped empower. My story is not just my own—it’s a story of strength, transformation, and the belief that every young mother deserves the chance to succeed.

About Momma’s Place

Momma’s Place, Inc. is a maternal and family wellness organization dedicated to reducing infant mortality, strengthening family stability, and addressing food insecurity among pregnant and parenting women.

Our core programs include:

  • Transitional Group Homes – Safe, supportive housing for single mothers and youth in crisis, offering stability, counseling, education, and pathways to independence.

  • Nutrition & Food Security – Distribution of culturally tailored, nutrient-dense food boxes designed to meet the prenatal and postnatal needs of mothers and infants.

  • Wraparound Support – Comprehensive services including case management, prenatal/postnatal care navigation, peer support groups, transportation assistance, diapers, formula, and newborn care packages.

Momma’s Place primarily serves women and children facing poverty, homelessness, or systemic inequities—particularly within Black, Latina, and immigrant communities. By integrating housing, nutrition, and wraparound supports, we ensure that vulnerable mothers and families have safe places to live, access to healthy food, and the resources needed to thrive.
